Item 15: Obligations To Participate in the Actual Operation of the Franchise Business
At this juncture, it will be required that the owner be on site. Absentee owners may be permitted if voted in by the Association majority.
I want to start off conservatively, because it’s better to do so in the beginning, however there are advantages to absentee ownership and once that’s voted in, it cannot be reversed.
As long as a store is properly managed, absentee ownership has several advantages;
A franchisee may own more than one store;
A franchisee may chose to run for some leadership position within the Freakie Fries Association or may be appointed a position of responsibility by the board of directors of the Freakie Fries Association;
A franchisee may choose to become a Master-Franchisor for Freakie Fries in one or more foreign countries;
Many owners may have other interests not associated with Freakie Fries and they need to be able to tend to them as well;
It will be up to the Association to vote in protective measures that will keep the quality of Freakie Fries up there. It’s in their everyone’s best interest to protect the Freakie Fries name with quality management.
There are many ways to cure mismanagement and still allow absentee owners. The Freakie Fries Association will develop a management training program for the benefit of all owners to develop a powerful management force.
