Item 2: Business Experience
I am Joseph Morgese and here is some background info on me.
After graduating from high school, back in 1971, I worked as a mail clerk for Fleetwood Sylvania Electronics in Montreal for six months.
Then, I worked with my older brother starting up Freakie Fries thru the summer of 1972 and then worked at Freakie Fries mostly up until January of 1973, when the apartment building that Freakie Fries was in was sold to a Chinese couple and they took over the business and turned it into a Chinese restaurant called ‘New Lucky’.
Most of my youth, since the age of ten, I worked for my dad in his wedding catering business named ‘Buffet Amiens’ , mostly as a kitchen hand, some bartending, and some waiting tables. This work was mostly just the weekends, and during the week, I went to school and then, starting in 1974, I did courier delivery.
In 1976, I became a full partner in the thriving family business with my dad, my brothers and brother-in-laws. We had three wedding reception halls and my mom, with lots of help, was cooking for two thousand people, and toward the end of 1976, we had purchased a 106 room oceanfront motel in Daytona Beach, Florida called ‘The Neptune Inn’.
In 1978, we purchased another 144 room motel just outside of Greater Daytona off of I-95, called The Granada Inn. I was the youngest of the six partners, and I eventually was given full management responsibilities for this.
In 1979, we sold the wedding catering business and in 1980, we sold both motels.
The Neptune was a very profitable venture and the incentive to sell it was strong, so we all cashed in and went our separate ways. It was the end of the family business.
I went back to courier in Montreal and did some cab-driving as well.
In 1984, I moved back to Daytona Beach, Florida with my wife and children, and started a new career in the construction field. I started off actually remodeling my beachside home, and then I worked for my dad remodeling his riverfront home.
In 1986, I began working in commercial construction, starting off as a laborer for a construction company, while going to school at night for a Building and Contracting degree at Daytona Beach Community College of which I completed one year of it towards a two year associate program.
In 1987, I found a foreman position in Orlando, Florida.
In 1989, I earned my Florida State Certified Building Contractors License.
In spite of this good progress, fate had other plans, and in 1993, I filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Not much after that, I divorced my wife of fifteen years and was forced to sell the house.
Serendipity
In 1995, I found a new career in the trucking industry and I became an over-the-road truck driver. It was just what I needed to turn things around for me. I was able to devote all of my spare time to this ‘God’s Algorithm’ that brought out the Perpetual Motion See-Saw design, that you may see on my web-site
www.freakiefries.com as well as other tidbits, and finally, a brand new meditation technique, of which, how I received it is the subject of my book ’An Eternal Love-Letter to the Girls of Freakie Fries’.
The inspiration to start the Freakie Fries Franchise came from this because the book may bring fame to the name of Freakie Fries.
I just recently completed this correspondence course for Hotel and Restaurant Management.
